Amsterdam: Cultural suggestions for June

If you follow Amsterdive you might be in the know of the current state of affairs. Amsterdive burned out. From that moment on, the only way out of the swamp was taking it easy. Instead of trying to go against the grain, just surfing the wave of exhaustion and anxiety. Accepting, that is. Accepting what is. Forgetting all the self-imposed projects and focusing my last energies on the payed projects and the deadlines which couldn’t be avoided. I started taking one day at a time, and inevitably, I was forced to taking a break from the blog. I finished one important deadline yesterday and today, after morning yoga, I felt… how to say it. I don’t know if I can proclaim myself better, but I guess, a bit more operational. That led me to thinking that putting together a few cultural suggestions for the rest of the month couldn’t hurt. Without further ado, here they are. Please, people. Do enjoy the glorious summer in this extraordinary city. You know what I’m talking about. And if you don’t, go explore these events and find out for yourself. Thank you for being there *

Today, 20.00 | Opera in het Park: Salome | Park Frankendael | free entrance

Tonight you don’t need to go to The National Opera and Ballet to watch the opera Salome. You can stay outside and watch it live from a big screen at the wonderful Park Frankendael in Amsterdam East. This program is part of the Holland Festival.

Today, 19.30 – 21.00 | AcroYoga summer park classes | Museumplein

Thursday, 22nd, 19.30 | Financial Awareness Seminar for Expats | De Groene Bocht | free entrance

Being an expat myself I know I’ve been delaying this for too long. If you’re anything like me, words like financial, taxes and pension already make you nervous, so this might be the opportunity to face the fear.

One of the highlights of the summer in terms of music festivals, if you ask me. Roots focuses on the diversity in world music, and its Open Air program offers amazing concerts, circus acts, and a market. I am excited to go watch the Chilean bands Newen Afrobeat + Pascuala Ilabaca y F.

Sunday, 25th, 14.00 – 20.00 | 5th Live Sounday | H/eart.h – free entrance

Every last Sunday of the month, vegetarian cafe / restaurant H/eart.h (Albert Cuypstraat) hosts this lovely afternoon gathering, with live music, where you get to know artists from Amsterdam and all-around. Next month there will be news on Amsterdive when it comes to our cultural agendas. I will be out traveling, therefore we will have a new cultural editor for the summer. Yey! Start preparing the confetti to welcome her. More on this SOON!
