When What Where – November

WWW is a cultural agenda focused on art, music, lesser-known cultural venues, sustainability & self-development. With a soft spot for world-music and multicultural events.

This time we’re doing just a couple of events for November as I’ve been on holiday and intentionally did not take my laptop with me (!) Ain’t I a rebel? We’re aaalmost halfway November but I thought it’d still be worthy to bring you a couple of events that I’m enthusiastic about. Amsterdam can be annoying because its overcrowdedness means a lot of interesting events sell out in two shakes of a lamb’s tail. If you’re not a tiger in being in-the-know or super well-connected, you’re doomed to ticket swapping eternally among desperate online consumers who don’t seem to mind overpricing nor have boundaries of time spent on the internet which, for me at least, generates massive irritation and kills the enjoyment of said event in general, and life in particular. Long story short, not including sold out events here. You’re welcome. Feel free to let me (us) know if I forgot any essential for November in the comment section!

When What Where – August

WWW is a cultural agenda focused on art, music, lesser-known cultural venues, sustainability & self-development. With a soft spot for world-music and multicultural events.

This is a shortened version of “Who What Where”. Simply because I need a rest. I am working hard to pay bills that have been piling up and I was getting so stressed out with my estrangled agenda that I’ve decided to take a minimalistic approach to the cultural agenda this month. I hope to have time both to work hard and organize my blogging year – for me, the new year always starts in September, not in January.

Amsterdam almost has an excess of cultural offer, especially in the summer, so I’ve selected just a few events for the rest of the month. I hope this helps you out with the sea of options out there. This being said, if you need an extra suggestion for a specific day, you can always contact me via the comments down below or via e-mail. Juicy stuff, here we go.

Amsterdam Culture Club took us to the Concertgebouw

First time I went to the Concert Gebouw was in 2014. It was a treat from my boss at the time, Riny Reiken from Proeflokaal ‘In de Olofspoort’. We went to watch “Hans and Grietje” which, by the way, is one of my all-time favourite operas. It was a marvellous experience. Besides being my employer, Riny also played the role of a musical tutor in my life. She believed I should pursue a career in singing. I have sung a lot at the “Lied and Klassiek” evenings at the tasting house that this special lady runs and, together, we used to sing a duet from Humperdinck’s opera: “Abends will ich schlafen gehn”. This song moves every part of my soul whenever I hear it.

A sweet memory from the first time I went to the Concertgebouw and got acquainted with a very wise young boy while waiting for the concert to start.

Now that I have introduced you to my special bond with opera and lyrical singing, you can imagine how enthusiastic I got when the Amsterdam Culture Club invited me to join another of their outings, this time at – just guess – the Royal Concertgebouw.

When What Where April

April prepares her green traffic light and the world thinks Go”.
Christopher Morley

Dear all,

Allow me to highlight three of the events I am SUPER looking forward to this month:

First of all, SHFT Happens, on Saturday 7! A one-day immersion where work feels like a retreat, where you get energy & nourishment from focusing and getting stuff done. Amsterdive partnered up with SHFT and we’re giving away discount codes – check all the info below.

Then, in the category of dancing as if there was no tomorrow, an evening of Lumberjacks in Hell at Noorderlicht, on Saturday 14, with the bright presence of DJs Mr Mendel, Marcel Vogel & Tom Noble!

Finally, in the category of culture, the concert “Symphonic Cinema: Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé’ a concert + film at Het Concertgebouw, courtesy of the Amsterdam Culture Club.

A cool thing? You can join me for all three of these programs – let me know if you do! And for now, enjoy the cultural agenda, and feel free to add any cultural suggestion of yours in the comments down below. 💫

‘Innenschau’ with the Amsterdam Culture Club

It was quite a while since I’d gone to a theatre show. Receiving an invitation from the  Amsterdam Culture Club to join one of their gatherings felt like getting a message from a bigger force – introduce cavernous voice here – Wake up Anaaaa. Make your way back to the theatreeee. I obeyed. Spent my uni time studying theatre, after all. Can’t be this long away from it.
