When | What | Where November

Amsterdive’s cultural agenda WHEN | WHAT | WHERE was taken over by aliens!
(well, not, but almost)

Ladies & Gentlemen,

I’m delighted to present you a cultural agenda for November curated by a handful of my favorite fellow bloggers (and instabloggers)! Andra Stefan from Amsterdamming, Carole Rey from Good Enough Darling, Dana Marin from Amsterdamian, Dani Bordiniuc from Coffee & Stories, Deepa Paul from Instagrambloggers, and, last but certainly not the least, Jan Arsenovic from Jan in Amsterdam, all accepted my invitation to participate in the Blogger’s Edition of When | What | Where! 💥

It feels AMAZING to have these fine creatives onboard with me. You might know some of them already. They’ve been commitedely documenting and creating content about Amsterdam and The Netherlands by means of articles, photography, video, even books (!). So this is my present for you, guys (better said – our present). After all, Sinterklaas is just around the corner. Make sure to visit the blogs of these marvellous six and check out what they’ve been up to.

With no further ado, let’s take a look at what is getting this team excited for the upcoming month!

Where The Sheep Sleep

Coming home

Every now and then I am walking around the city – wait, who am I kidding?, I never walk – I am cycling, cycling around the city -, and I get struck by this feeling that we are all so disconnected from each other. Which is ironical given the fact that we are also living crammed to each other and yet emotionally so far apart, always busy, never really paying attention to what’s happening around us. Then I can’t avoid my mind to wander to a place where it all was different, where connecting was the rule and not the exception. Where everyone smiled at each other, where people acknowledge each other’s presence, where interactions with other human beings were easy, simple, and free. This description might sound like a mere utopia to most of us. But the cool thing is that there are places like this in the world: not many, that’s true, but they exist.

Amsterdam: Cultural suggestions for June

If you follow Amsterdive you might be in the know of the current state of affairs. Amsterdive burned out. From that moment on, the only way out of the swamp was taking it easy. Instead of trying to go against the grain, just surfing the wave of exhaustion and anxiety. Accepting, that is. Accepting what is. Forgetting all the self-imposed projects and focusing my last energies on the payed projects and the deadlines which couldn’t be avoided. I started taking one day at a time, and inevitably, I was forced to taking a break from the blog. I finished one important deadline yesterday and today, after morning yoga, I felt… how to say it. I don’t know if I can proclaim myself better, but I guess, a bit more operational. That led me to thinking that putting together a few cultural suggestions for the rest of the month couldn’t hurt. Without further ado, here they are. Please, people. Do enjoy the glorious summer in this extraordinary city. You know what I’m talking about. And if you don’t, go explore these events and find out for yourself. Thank you for being there *

Weekly agenda | 27th Mar – 2nd Apr

[The Weekly Agenda is a selection of cultural events for the city of Amsterdam, with an alternative feel. An activity per day, or sometimes two if they can be combined with each other. Every listed event includes a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. For updates please like Amsterdive’s Facebook page]

Dear all, I am extremely excited about the partnership between We Are Public and The Opera Forward Festival. If you are in the possession of a WAP pass you can go watch the best of contemporary opera for über friendly prices which vary between 5 and 15 euros. It is unreal. Yesterday I saw Caliban at the Compagnietheater and it was impressive to realize how opera can suddenly be so light and innovative. Upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday there is more (amongst other exciting activities) – check it out below.

Enjoy the sun!

Weekly agenda | 13 – 19 March

Dear all,

This week is a very important one. It will set up the tone for what’s to come on the next four years in The Netherlands. Let’s trust the result of the elections of March 15th emphasize a sense of unity amongst the people, rather than division. I firmly believe we need to work with each other, find solutions with each other, trust each other, now more than ever. I also have great admiration for the Dutch capacity of finding consensus, and moving forward together, facing challenges in a cooperative and inclusive manner. So I urge all the people who look at the world through this lens to make use of their vote. If you feel quite disappointed with the state of matters around you, this is exactly the opportunity you have to help the social and political scale fall to a compassionate and constructive side. If you feel hopeful, spread the positive message because we are collectively in need of it, seriously.

To make everything all the merrier, the selected cultural events for this week are all free entrance or donation-based. To honor the spirit of inclusion, compassion, constructiveness, and freedom, which should be the guide for any voter, any citizen, any human being on this earth. Don’t forget that every listed event includes a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. To get updates please like Amsterdive’s Facebook page. And if you did it already, you have a place in my heart, obviously.

Week (end) agenda | 26th Dec – 1st Jan 2017

I grew up in a time when the year of 2017 seemed so far that, just by pronouncing it, you sort of had an instantaneous science-fiction feel. TWO-THOUSAND-AND-SEVENTEEN. It still feels like that, right? Seventeen years ago a good portion of the world’s population was convinced we were done, the end of time was just ahed of us. And yet, we came this far. I’ve been considering every year a gift since then ( reflection moment here).

Okey, I’m exaggerating. I’m not able of being that mindful, although I really do try.

But let’s go back to trivia. Mommy is in da house! Christmas was pure gezelligheid in her company. Other than that, I have to find all sorts of ways of entertaining her, and myself, along the way. So here we go, back to planning. Don’t forget that every event includes a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. To get updates please like Amsterdive’s Facebook page. And if you did it already, you have a place in my heart, of course.

Week (end) agenda | 10th – 16th Oct

Here am I, one year wiser, and struggling with party blues. Nonetheless, heel veel zin in, which sort of means looking forward to it, in Dutch. Looking forward to daily life, let’s put it like that, which is for sure a sign I’m living one that excites and suits me. And these agendas add on to that excitement. So let’s check the cultural menu for this week.

Don’t forget that the names of the events include a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. To get weekly updates of selected events, please like Amsterdive’s facebook page! And if you did it already, you have a place in my heart, of course.

Week (end) agenda | 3rd Oct – 9th Oct

This is probably my favorite week of the year. It is the week of my birthday, heck! Please start getting the fireworks ready because I’m all into rocking this. I made it to one more year of growth, self-development, wonder and woe. And my greatest wish for the upcoming year is that I keep on experiencing the world in awe. As simple as that. These cultural agendas I put together really help me on that. Because we have to play an active role in this ‘awe’ matter and keep triggering ourselves with interesting stuff. Stuff that shakes both our bodies and minds. Stuff that basically keep us feeling alive.

Let’s do this.

Don’t forget that the names of the events include a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. To get weekly updates of selected events, please like Amsterdive’s facebook page! And if you did it already, you have a place in my heart, of course. Continue reading “Week (end) agenda | 3rd Oct – 9th Oct”

Week (end) agenda | 12th – 18th Sept

With this late-tropical summer we are facing, I’m sure a lot of our original plans are going to be replaced by outdoors options. Anyway, the program for this week looks like an exciting one (as usual), so maybe we can find a compromise between sunbathing / barbecuing and feeding mind / soul. Yes, vitamin D is also very necessary to the soul but well, you know what I mean, right? Don’t forget that the names of the events include a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. And we’ll start out tonight in the best of fashions, with the fiery rhythms of my dear friends Guzanghida.
