Amsterdam: Cultural suggestions for June

If you follow Amsterdive you might be in the know of the current state of affairs. Amsterdive burned out. From that moment on, the only way out of the swamp was taking it easy. Instead of trying to go against the grain, just surfing the wave of exhaustion and anxiety. Accepting, that is. Accepting what is. Forgetting all the self-imposed projects and focusing my last energies on the payed projects and the deadlines which couldn’t be avoided. I started taking one day at a time, and inevitably, I was forced to taking a break from the blog. I finished one important deadline yesterday and today, after morning yoga, I felt… how to say it. I don’t know if I can proclaim myself better, but I guess, a bit more operational. That led me to thinking that putting together a few cultural suggestions for the rest of the month couldn’t hurt. Without further ado, here they are. Please, people. Do enjoy the glorious summer in this extraordinary city. You know what I’m talking about. And if you don’t, go explore these events and find out for yourself. Thank you for being there *

Weekly agenda | 15th – 21st May

[The Weekly Agenda is a selection of cultural events for the city of Amsterdam, with an alternative feel. An activity per day, or sometimes two if they can be combined with each other. Every listed event includes a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. For updates please like Amsterdive’s Facebook page]

Okay. I’ve half an hour to finish this agenda, as I need to cycle afterwards to the work which pays my rent. So here are the events which strike my fancy this week. Might you have any question about any of these, just shoot it in the comments down below, or via Facebook, and I’ll get back to you. This is my way of compensating my readers for the lack of the usual event descriptions. Above all: go explore, and enjoy!

Hi, all!

This week’s agenda is long and full of exciting events and activities. Sometimes it is just very difficult to select because I literally want to go everywhere, and there are so many interesting things going on at the same time in the city. Decisions, decisions!… Anyway, here’s my list of priorities for the week:

Dear all,

After a week of silence, our cultural agenda is back! And you know what I learned from this week of absence? I can’t miss my own agendas anymore. I have never been a great planner and, at a certain point, I was just overscheduling myself, and having to cancel things last minute. I started putting these together for the sake of my own organization so I would have an overview of my week leisure-wise. Other than that, I wanted to have a link to redirect my friends, when they asked me about “plans for the weekend”. Here’s the menu for this week, for your amusement.

(For suggestions and comments, do get in touch via amsterdivemail@gmail.com. Enjoy!)

Dear all,

Did you know that I am collaborating with a local Amsterdam newspaper, and writing cultural agendas for them as well? The Heart of the City ( or Het Hart van de Stad, in Dutch) is a publication which focus in the city center, and aims at stimulating the bonding of citizens to their neighborhood. Furthermore its mission is also one of “connecting residents and visitors in a positive manner”. Cool, hun? This is an online publication as well as a ‘physical’ one, and you can check out its first edition here. There, on page 8, you can find the Dutch version of the agenda, but there’s an English one as well, almost at the end, on page 5 (yes, the newspaper has two covers!). On page 19, one finds my facey + bio on the list of contributors. I’m happy as a clam. Let’s dive together into this week’s menu.

Dear all, I am extremely excited about the partnership between We Are Public and The Opera Forward Festival. If you are in the possession of a WAP pass you can go watch the best of contemporary opera for über friendly prices which vary between 5 and 15 euros. It is unreal. Yesterday I saw Caliban at the Compagnietheater and it was impressive to realize how opera can suddenly be so light and innovative. Upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday there is more (amongst other exciting activities) – check it out below.

Enjoy the sun!

Weekly Agenda | 20 – 26 March

Dear all,

Amsterdive is growing! If it’s your first time here, welcome. This is our weekly cultural agenda for the city of Amsterdam, which aims at bringing you hand-picked events which I feel really add something to the cultural landscape of the city. This series started as a personal attempt at self-organizing. There are so many options, so many events going on, so much cultural offer, that at a certain point I was overbooking my free time, and getting all overwhelmed with it. That’s why I try to select just one event per day, according to my preferences. Don’t forget that every listed event includes a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. In order to get updates please like Amsterdive’s Facebook page. And if you did it already, you have a place in my heart, obviously.
