Week (end) agenda | 26th Dec – 1st Jan 2017

I grew up in a time when the year of 2017 seemed so far that, just by pronouncing it, you sort of had an instantaneous science-fiction feel. TWO-THOUSAND-AND-SEVENTEEN. It still feels like that, right? Seventeen years ago a good portion of the world’s population was convinced we were done, the end of time was just ahed of us. And yet, we came this far. I’ve been considering every year a gift since then ( reflection moment here).

Okey, I’m exaggerating. I’m not able of being that mindful, although I really do try.

But let’s go back to trivia. Mommy is in da house! Christmas was pure gezelligheid in her company. Other than that, I have to find all sorts of ways of entertaining her, and myself, along the way. So here we go, back to planning. Don’t forget that every event includes a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. To get updates please like Amsterdive’s Facebook page. And if you did it already, you have a place in my heart, of course.

Tue, 27th, 16.30 | Amsterdam Light Walk | various locations

Walk + installations. For me, the Amsterdam Light Festival is the highlight of winter in this city. It really makes the season. It is the best excuse to enjoy a walk outside, and the city in all its splendor, despite weather conditions. The light art installations just enhance our city, and borrow it an even more mystical aura than it already has. In case you can’t join this collective walk, you can always follow the route yourself, or – as in my case – go with you mommy ( or any loved one, for this matter).

Woe, 28th, 13.00 | This Art Fair 2016 | Beurs van Berlage

Art Fair. A fair which showcases visual art – from upcoming and established artists -, to a broad audience. Plus, it takes place at the historical Beurs van Berlage, the first stock market in the world. The fair’s opening takes place on the 27th. Tip: go see the performance of Allard Medema’s physical inflated telephone ( at 18.30).

Thu, 29th, 20.30 | All Ellington | Bimhuis

Concert. Jazz time! The band of contemporary jazz All Ellington plays tribute to music of Duke Ellington. And the entrance is free for We Are Public membership card holders!

Fri, 30th, 23.00 | Dansé Dansé: Pre NYE Party | Pacific Parc

We’ll always have Pacific Parc. This time with a pre NYE party, full on with African sounds & rhythms. There is going to be live music and djs for you to properly dance the night away.

Sat, 31st | NYE! – stay tuned for tomorrow’s blogpost, for the exciting parties in town

Sun, 1st, 16.00 | Clube do Samba – Checkpoint Charlie | free entrance

My Christmas afternoon was spent listening to the delicious tunes of Clube do Samba, and the Brazilian music they play is truly heart-warming. I can’t think of a better way of starting the year. Tip: go there on a date with you partner of choice, if you have the chance😉
