Week (end) agenda | 3rd Oct – 9th Oct

This is probably my favorite week of the year. It is the week of my birthday, heck! Please start getting the fireworks ready because I’m all into rocking this. I made it to one more year of growth, self-development, wonder and woe. And my greatest wish for the upcoming year is that I keep on experiencing the world in awe. As simple as that. These cultural agendas I put together really help me on that. Because we have to play an active role in this ‘awe’ matter and keep triggering ourselves with interesting stuff. Stuff that shakes both our bodies and minds. Stuff that basically keep us feeling alive.

Let’s do this.

Don’t forget that the names of the events include a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. To get weekly updates of selected events, please like Amsterdive’s facebook page! And if you did it already, you have a place in my heart, of course.

Mon, 3rd Oct – 18.00 | Remains of the day – Kriterion cinema

Today there is the kick-start of October’s ‘Modern Classics’ at Kriterion. This month’s theme is ‘Costume Dramas’. Think of history, etiquette, and, of course, stunning costumes. This adaptation of  Kazuo Ishiguro‘s novel was nominated for 8 oscars in 1993. The modern classics take place every Monday for the friendly price of 5 euros.

Tue, 4th Oct – 20.00 | M – Theater Bellevue

Dance, dance, dance. A combination of Mahler, Nietzsche, and the choreography of Samir Calixto. Free entrance if you have a We are Public membership card.

Woe, 5th Oct – 20.30 | Zig Zig – Frascati

And now it’s time for theater. The Egyptian Laila Soliman stages a “poignant production on violence against women”. This is an English speaking production, and in case you can’t make it on Wednesday, there’s a show tomorrow as well.

Thu, 6th Oct – 8th, Oct | ADM Festival

This squatted community celebrates it’s 19th birthday with a multi-disciplinary-all-flavoured music program, dancing, safari and porcelain, circus and puppets and much more – this is what reads on the festival’s Fb event, and I wouldn’t be able to describe it any better.

Fri, 7th Oct – 20.00 | Psycho Jones’ Disco Bingo – Roest – free entrance

I’m all into bizarre combinations, so no way I would refuse a proposal of bingo + disco dances + weirdness + Roest.

Sat, 8th Oct – 12.00 | NDSM OPEN | free entrance

I’d live at NDSM yard if I could. So, for me, this is the opportunity for pretending I actually do. 60 artists from 40 ateliers are joining this massive exhibition at the most impressive former shipyard set-up.

Sat, 8th Oct – 22.00 | Balkan Beat Bar is Back at OCCII

This event only applies to you in case you’re not attending my birthday party. And that possibility requires the most reasonable of explanations. Other than that, we’re always up to a balkan beat night.

Sun, 9th Oct – 23.30 | Wicked Jazz Sounds club night

Wicked jazz sounds is one of the most iconic of Amsterdam’s clubbing scene. I would advise it to anyone who wants to have a proper Saturday night dance to the sound of the best jazzy-funky notes… on a regular Sunday.
