Allow me to highlight three of the events I am SUPER looking forward to this month:
First of all, SHFT Happens, on Saturday 7! A one-day immersion where work feels like a retreat, where you get energy & nourishment from focusing and getting stuff done. Amsterdive partnered up with SHFT and we’re giving away discount codes – check all the info below.
Then, in the category of dancing as if there was no tomorrow, an evening of Lumberjacks in Hell at Noorderlicht, on Saturday 14, with the bright presence of DJs Mr Mendel, Marcel Vogel & Tom Noble!
Finally, in the category of culture, the concert “Symphonic Cinema: Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé’ a concert + film at Het Concertgebouw, courtesy of the Amsterdam Culture Club.
A cool thing? You can join me for all three of these programs – let me know if you do! And for now, enjoy the cultural agenda, and feel free to add any cultural suggestion of yours in the comments down below. 💫
This is apparently the movie of the year. Literally, everyone I know is/was talking about it and I haven’t had the chance yet to see it yet so I am grabbing my We Are Public pass and watching it for free #ilovemywearepublic
A new interpretation of Sophocles’ Greek Tragedy by Toneelgroep Amsterdam, a theatre company I can highly recommend. The play will have English surtitles so, in case you don’t master the local language, you won’t miss out. #ilovemywearepublic
Excited to be collaborating with SHFT Happens as their ambassador for one day! You might have read about my experience with this work-retreat, and if not, you still on time. SHFT is a co-work community, the space where you get to explore the latest methods of coaching and productivity and step in your creative power. Damn, I can’t think of a more innovative approach to work, be it your passion work, a project, or your own business. Next Saturday I will be immersing myself in SHFT’s co-working haven and, this time, besides participating in their workshops & working sessions I will be doing some lives and interviews during the event. The cool thing is, you are more than welcome to join us! We are offering discounts to the first three readers who sign up for the event. Here they are:
As the codes likely suggest, they are 30% off, 20% off, and 10% off. If you are considering joining, do it now and you’ll be the lucky one to get the 30% discount. Also, in case you can’t make it this time, you can always transfer the credit to the following immersion. In case of doubt, e-mail email@example.com. See YOU there!
Let’s dance our butts off next Sunday, shall we? Guzanghida is playing live at MixTree and their concerts are always ecstatic. West African rhythms to close the weekend in an energised fashion.
This is so cool. Finding a way not to kill your home plants? Learning how to grow your own edibles? Becoming an urban farmer? Yes, you can. Join the 2nd edition of Urban Farming Open Day!
Noorderlicht will host an evening of Lumberjacking in Hell w/ Mr Mendel & Marcel Vogel warming up the dancefloor to New-Yorker Tom Noble. They are going to disco, soul & boogie – not necessarily in this order ( i n t h i s o r d e r ).
This play is a spoken word-shaped and it brings together seven women from Poetry Circle Nowhere. A critical study of what it means to be a woman, with monologues, word games, sharp humour. If you’re learning Dutch, this is a good chance to practice it 😉
If you are acquainted with Ashtanga yoga, you might want to try the non-led version of it, where the student practices the sequence at his own pace. This is the way that Sri Pattabhi Jois taught his students in ashtanga’s hometown, Mysore, India.
A lying concert at Pllek! Go listen to a live concert while laying down – a mix of traditional classical music, electronic chill and traditional Indian “raga” music. Just close your eyes, and let yourself go.
Ditch the audiobooks and go listen to poetry & fiction, live, by the students of the International Writer’s Collective.
A poetry, music & storytelling evening organized by Hiraeth Magazine, which is all about stories of migration. You can also join the program with your own creations!
If hiphop is meeting ballet, I’m sold. I’m already sold on the work of the Dutch National Opera & Ballet anyway. GRIMM is a show by the Junior Company w/ the ISH Dance Collective.
As a blogger working in creative fields I am super curious about this talk on influencer marketing in the cultural sector. “Why would a cultural organization work with influencers?” is their question. Dutch spoken.
“The nexus of feminism and environmentalism as it interrelates to the fashion industry” is the theme of the discussion prior to this spring clothing swap. Exciting!
I never went to a Fiesta Macumba in the Melkweg, which is probably the most well-known Latin party in town, so it’s high time that I do – now that I think about it this is actually a great program for King’s Night.
Honestly, King’s Day can be overwhelming. There are celebrations in every neighbourhood of the city so you can either stay where you live or head to the NDSM, which is still a free-haven which offers a program of alternative music in the city.
Super excited for this one! Together with a group of blogger-friends, I am going to head to Het Concertgebouw – a venue that I love – and listen to the symphonic orchestra play ‘Symphonic Cinema: Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé’. The film is directed by Lucas van Woerkum, the orchestra is conducted by Benjamin Wallfisch and, thanks to the Amsterdam Culture Club, we will also get to talk with both, after the program. And you can join us, as well (so maybe we’ll get to talk, too?). I expect an inspiration boom and lots of gezelligheid.
WWW is a cultural agenda focused on art, music, lesser-known cultural venues, sustainability & community events, self-development. With a soft spot for world-music and multicultural events.
This list is updated weekly, so make sure to follow Amsterdive’s Facebook page for keeping up to date with When it happens, What it is & Where it takes place. For the city’s cultural agenda, check the I amsterdam website.
