Tue, 5th to Fri, 8th | On The Roof Film Festival 2017

Film festival. Sustainability is this year’s theme of a festival which shows worldcinema at the rooftop of the main building of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (the films are English spoken or have English subtitles). Check their program!

Thu, 7th to Mon, 11th | Forró Amsterdam Festival 2017 | different locations

Dance festival. By now you might be aware of my love of Brazilian music. A Forró festival could never be left out of this agenda.

14th to 24th | West Beach Film Festival 2017 | Sloterstrand (Sloterpark) – free entrance

Outdoor film festival. Because the outdoor film festival season is not over yet. Food & drinks available. Check the link for the program.

Documentary. A moving document about what it is that makes us human, binding us together regardless of the place we come from.

Music festival. The deepest sounds of the earth sprinkled with a good dose of experimentation.

Dance. Dancing forró & samba in the open-air is, personally, all in need to be happy on a Sunday afternoon.

Concert. After all the dancing, finishing up with a beer to the sound of a cozy concert of samba classics sounds like the plan.

Market. Taste before you waste saves food from being wasted and you can go pick up your share in a pay-as-you-feel basis.

Discussion. The Feminist Club Amsterdam is kick-starting the season with a discussion about feminism in music, to which you can contribute! Check the link above.

Neighborhood festival. Theater, music and food at Zuidoost with the curation of the Fringe Theater festival. A good excuse to go meet this exciting upcoming neighborhood.

Film. Tonight, Indian writer and activist Arundathy Roy’s “We” (2005) will be screened at the NieuwLand.

Sat, 9th – Sun, 10th | Open Monumentendag Amsterdam – free entrance

Open-monument day. Our chance to visit an array of monuments in Amsterdam, as well as special itineraries, exhibitions and lectures, all for free. Check their program.

Sat, 9th, 22.00 | Kumbia Boruka Live + Alex Figueira| De Pepper (OT301) – donation based

Concert + dj. Kumbia Boruka will brings us their cumbia sounds mixed with reagge and rock and Alex will be djeing afterwards. For me this means: dance dance dance.

Dances. Het Openluchtheater will host a Summer Breeze party (yes, the ones that usually happen at the Westergasterras) which will warm up all the latin souls out there.

Opening. The opening of André Kertész photography exhibition at the photography museum FOAM. Check the link in order to RSVP and attend the event.

Thu, 14th, 19.30 | Body Politics | Troppenmuseum

Talks. Body Politics is part of the Un/Engendered series of lectures and events on the multiple meanings and roles of gender in the Tropenmuseum collections. In this series we invite scholars, activists and artists to rethink and rewrite notions of gender, body politics and sexuality, and its relation to patriarchy in contemporary societies.

Opening. Exhibition on the works of filmmakers Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Cao Guimarães will have its kick-start tonight at Film Museum EYE. With art, performance, food, poetry and music. Special act of Roda da Holanda, with their famous Roda de Samba.

Neighborhood festival. After the gentrification of all major neighborhoods in Amsterdam, Zuidoost is the way to go. Let’s discover the borough through means of music, food, workshops and parties. Check the Het Parool’s article on the event.

Sun, 17th | Open Day | Pakhuis Wilhelmina – free entrance

Performances + drinks. A full program of music, exhibitions, open ateliers, theater and the likes, to celebrate the 29th anniversary of Pakhuis Wilhelmina.

Documentary. Authentic relationships are possible only when people are fundamentally independent of each other: this is the premise on which the Swedish manifest Family of the Future (1972) is based. But. Do we need each other to be happy? (w/ Dutch subtitles)

Opening. Foam’s talent exhibition kick-off, which displays work by 20 upcoming artists. Some of them will be present at the event. The exhibition will be on until the 20 of November.

Meditation. Group meditation to celebrate the equinox. Bring a mat and everything you need to be comfortable.

Neighborhood festival. Music, food, beverages, activities for kids, market stalls, you know the drill.

Sat, 23rd, 22.30 | Everything must be interpreted as a party | Frascati – free entrance

Opening + concerts. The opening of the theatrical season at the theather company Frascati, with music by Gerjan Schreuder, Ariah Lester, Falt, and Deks.

Sun, 24th, 16.00 | Clube do Samba | Monumentje – free entrance

Concert. A lazy Sunday afternoon to the sound of sweet samba tunes is all one needs.

Mon, 25th, 09.00 | Green Living Library: Study in Nature|Het Groene Leven Lab

Study afternoon. The Green Living Lab opens its doors for students to enjoy the nature while they do the study. Don’t forget to reserve your spot in advance.

Movie night. A silence film from the EYE’s archives with live music. The Refugee Cafe will  be open during the screening.

Fri, 29th, 21.00| The F Word: Fantastic Feminist Party 2017 | OCCI

Party. A celebration of intersectional feminism with live acts of all-girl bands from around the world.

Sun, 30th, 22.00 | Motel Sexyland | Sexyland


Party. A celebration of the five-year anniversary of the independent journalism platform De Correspondent (they also have a newsletter in English, for which you can sign up to).
