This week is, for me, about working like-there-was-no-tomorrow. In the meanwhile, I’ll insert a dancing-like-there-was-no-tomorrow evening as well, so that I maintain some sort of sanity (Guzanghida on Friday).
So here are the deals for this week. Don’t forget that every listed event includes a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. To get updates please like Amsterdive’s Facebook page. And if you did it already, you have a place in my heart, obviously.
Tue, 17th, 17.30 | A Moment Before – Photo Exhibition | Dokhuis Galerie – donation based event
Photography. This is a program that actually lasts for two days. It is organized by Taste before you Waste and the theme is, as usual, food waste. On Tuesday there will be food, the opening of the exhibition, talks by the artists, an auction of some works, and music. On Wednesday the gallery will be open all day for the exhibition, and there will be a bunch of workshops happening, all on sustainability.
Woe, 18th, 20.00 | Westergasfabriek Live | Westergasfabriek – free entrance
Concerts. Want to catch up with a friend over a beer? Wednesdays is live music evening at the Westergasfabriek. At the Brouwerij Troost there’s a jazz concert by PULL, at Pacific Parc some folk/blues played by Tromp & McLachlan.
Thu, 19th, 22.00 | Movie Mayhem | Pacific Parc
Party. The description to the event reads: OBSCURE FILM MUSIC 60’s 70’s 80’s BENG BENG Style. Ha! Count me in.
Fri, 20th, 21.00 | Guzanghida | De Pepper (OT 301 restaurant) – free entrance
Concert. Dancing like I was possessed is one of the things on top of my list of priorities. That’s why missing out on the west-African percussion concert by Guzanghida is not an option. Moreover they’re my friends. So double fun.
Sat, 21st, 20.30 | Progress Bar | Tolhuistuin
Art + Clubbing. It’s said to be the best progressive night in Amsterdam. It seems to be an evening where music, art and readings are combined with clubbing. Exciting! I’ll be there, one hour in advance, as a public figure, which means I’ll be available to chat with you about the marvelous world of We Are Public. By the way, it’s going to be a free evening for We Are Public membership card holders.
Sun, 22nd | Amsterdam 1900 | Stadsarchief Amsterdam
Photography. Sunday means CROWDS so, in principle, not the best day for going to a museum in Amsterdam. But I’ve to make an exception here. I haven’t been to Amsterdam 1900 and I NEED TO. They’re showing photography of George Hendrik Breitner, Jacob Olie en Bernard Eilers, amongst others. And they’re closed on Mondays, which is usually my museum day. So I’ll try to wake up early.
Sun, 22nd, 16.00| Stampvol: Bangladesh | Noorderlicht
Concert. There is also a concert at Noorderlicht, this Sunday. A quartet called Bangladesh playing some whimsical music with the most surprising instruments. So, the sofa is not going to be an option.
