Week (end) Agenda | 24th Oct – 30th Oct

Now that Amsterdam Dance Event is finally over, we can all return to normalcy. Here in the Westerpark area we can sleep again, and the NDSM is ours anew. Time to take a look at this week’s cultural menu.

Don’t forget that the names of the events include a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well. To get weekly updates of selected events, please like Amsterdive’s Facebook page. And if you did it already, you have a place in my heart, of course.

Mon, 24th Oct, 19.30 | The Open Draw Amsterdam Nights – Cinetol

Drawing session & workshop. This is an evening of collective drawing. On the first hour there will be a workshop on zines, and afterwards, artists and enthusiasts let their creativity flow together.

Tue, 25th Oct – 17.00 | Post Capitalism: A Guide to our future – De Balie

Talk: “Paul Mason, one of the most renowned Economics journalists, states in his latest books PostCapitalism: a guide to our future that capitalism has reached its limits and is changing. At the heart of this change is information technology: a revolution that – as Mason believes- has the potential to reshape utterly our familiar notions of work.”

Tue, 25th Oct – 20.30 | Cecilia Lisa Eliceche: Unison – Vlaams Cultuurhuis De Brakke Grond

Dance. “The Argentinian Cecilia Lisa Eliceche with UNISONO tackles one of the most renowned choreographical concepts: unisono, meaning the simultaneous performing of one and the same movement.” There’s another show on Wednesday, but after the Tuesday’s show, there will be an after talk with the choreographer.

Woe, 26th Oct – 20.00 | Verklärte Nacht – Rosas/Anne Teresa De Keersmaker – Stadsschouwburg

Dance. If you never saw anything by this Belgian choreographer, you shouldn’t miss this opportunity. The show is based on the late-romantic Schöneberg’s music. A shameless love-story, both passionate and vulnerable, with De Keersmaker’s stamp of contemporary.

Thu, 27th Oct – 20.00 | Pitch Night XV for €1000 cash – Piadina Bar Amsterdam

Pitches & beer. An evening of inspiring pitches, impressive ideas, and creative people. You can send in your brilliant idea for Amsterdam and be the one who walks out with 1000 in your pocket, to make it happen.

Fri, 28th Oct – 19.00 | Book launch and storytelling night – Scheltema | free entrance

Book launch. Debra Barraud from Humans of Amsterdam is launching her book and telling her story. A special event where three other guests ( previously portraid by Debra) will play a special part in storytelling.

Fri, 28th Oct – 22.00 | Afrikaanse avond | Hannekes Boom – free entrance

Party. An evening of African music? Count me in! This is an autumn party where the music is louder than usual, and dances are supposed to be more exotic than usual too.

Sat, 29th Oct | 24H Noord at NDSM-werf | free

Art & workshops. If you don’t know the so-called “urban playground” NDSM ( the coolest former shipyard on earth), this is your chance of some unforgettable 24 hours there. Check the entire program of theater, visual arts, video, and workshops. There’s a graffiti one in which you get the chance to leave your own mark to posterity.

Sat, 29th Oct – 22.00 | Tropicalismo – Roest | free entrance

Party. Can we ever have enough of tropical rhythms in our life? They call this evening “a tropical holiday at Roest”. Go dance your night away!

Sun, 30th – 18.30 | 5Rhythms Spirit Waves Dance – Club Lite

Workshop. Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness are the 5 rhythms that form a wave. This dance philosophy created by Gabrielle Roth roots itself in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. I’m very curious to try it.
