Week (end) Agenda | 19th – 25th Sept

Dear all,

We’ve exciting days ahead of us. Those in which you have five different events you promised to attend plus an extra one you are reeeally curious about. And on top of that it is the birthday of your brother-in-law, at which you definitely need to show your face. Don’t know how to balance all this? Neither do I. But I keep on trying. That’s the purpose of these cultural agendas, so that I try and make a selection out of the sea of possibilities Amsterdam offers us / overwhelms us with (erase what does not apply). Please, do take advantage of them! Don’t forget that the names of the events include a link to its website, and free events are signaled as well.

Mon, 19th – Sun, 25th Sept | Unseen Photo Fair and Festival – Spaarndammerbuurt & Westergasfabriek

This year, this international photography fair is set in different locations of the wonderful Spaarndammerbuurt, but maintaining its ‘headquarters’ at the Westergasfabriek. It focuses in new photography, so expect to be inspired and puzzled.

Tue, 20th – 21.00 | Ping Pong Night – OT301 | free entrance

Did you miss the Ping Pong nights? I’m considering paying them a visit tomorrow since it’s been a looong time I’m absent from what used to be one of my favorite weekly occasions in this city. Beer, ping pong tables, funky environment & the best beats of DJim Bolia!

Wed, 21st – 20.00 | Introduction and upcoming year planning – Feminist Club Amsterdam @ Atria | public discussion night

For the feminist minds amongst us, who wish to play a more active role in the topic of equality, this is the chance.

Thur, 22th Sept | The price we pay – Kriterion Cinema

This documentary is a dive into the issue of tax evasion & fiscal paradises. Hosted by research journalists from Trouw, this evening is about analyzing the context and complexities of this problem. English spoken documentary. The discussion will be held in Dutch, I suppose.

Sat, 24th Sept – 19.00 | Nacht van de Waanzin – Van Gogh Museum | free entrance

The name of this evening literally means ‘Night of Madness’, and it is part of the event 24 hours Zuid. Here you get to see an array of performances (music, performance, literature) inside of the museum, and explore the universe of Van Gogh’s malady. Free for all Amsterdammers.

Sun, 25th Sept – 14.00 | Bandjesdag – Noorderlicht | free entrance

This is an opportunity of getting to know local bands in one of the most stunning Amsterdam locations.

 Thu, 22th – Sun, 25th | Storytelling Festival – Mezrab

A whole Storytelling weekend, with the quality & coziness seal of Mezrab. Thursday is already sold out and Sunday is for Dutch speaking people.

And, in case you need to get out of the city buzz:

Fri, 23th – Sun, 25th | RuigMarket – Ruigoord | free entrance

This market is a good occasion for you to support local small businesses & craftspeople, while enjoying the best of the hippie welcoming atmosphere of the village of Ruigoord. It will run the entire weekend, starting out on Friday, 16.00. The other days it will be open from 13.00 on.
